2012: Asteroid Hits Earth?

Monday, 23 August 2010

This is how it might look like if an asteroid hits planet earth.

Some people suggest this will happen in December 2012…
If so, enjoy yourself till all dissolves into cosmic dust!

The 2012 phenomenon comprises a range of eschatological beliefs that cataclysmic or transformative events will occur on December 21st, 2012.

This date is supposed to be the end-date of a 5’0125-year-long cycle in the Mayan calendar. Various astronomical alignments and numerological concepts related to this date have been suggested.

An esoteric interpretation of this transition posits that during this time Earth and its inhabitants may undergo a positive physical or spiritual transformation, and that 2012 may mark the beginning of a new era. Others suggest that the 2012 date marks the end of the world or a similar catastrophe.

Scenarios posited for the end of the world include the Earth’s collision with a passing planet (often referred to as "Nibiru") or black hole, or the arrival of the next solar maximum. An artistic representation of this can be seen to the right:

American philosopher and ethnobotanist Terence McKenna believes however that in 2012 the world will not dissolve into pieces, but instead enter a whole new level of "novelty".

I predict the most novel event in the history of the world in 2012, and for conservative mind that might look like doomsday, but it isn’t doomsday, it’s simply that we are moving deeper and deeper into uncharted territory, novel territory. And that’s frightening to some people, and exhilarating to others.

The strange attractor of 2012.

The whole cosmos wants to change into information or in a geometrical model, all points want to become connected…
there is an ultimate endstate of that process, it’s the moment when every point in the universe is connected to every other point in the universe…
the strangeness of our condition signifies the nearness of the attractor.

  1. I kind of agree with Terence McKenna. There is more and more novelty, and the rate of change in novelty will increase more and more in 2012 – but it surely will not END there!
