Sunday, 8 August 2010

The ‘sarcastic fringehead’ (yep, that’s how they’re called) must surely be one of the world’s most terrifying fish.

The sarcastic fringehead (Neoclinus blanchardi) is a ferocious fish with a scary distended large mouth and aggressive territorial behaviour.

Two fringeheads will wrestle by pressing their distended mouths against each other, as if they were kissing. However, this behaviour reveals their a territorial battles. This demonstration of force allows them to determine which is the larger and stronger fish and hence who is in charge.

Remember, ultrafeel.tv already introduced you to the world’s most psychedelic fish: the flamboyant cuttlefish;
the biggest fish: the giant sunfish;
and the most beautiful ones: surfing dolphins amongst many other fishy adventures!
