Past is over (Non-duality by Jeff Foster)

Advaita / non-duality teacher Jeff Foster talks about the illusory nature of time.

The past is over
…you see, these days I place hardly any importance on the past, for the simple reason that it’s over.
No matter what happened in the past, no matter what happened to "me", no matter what I apparently "went through", it’s over.

It’s over. The past is OVER. Finished. Finito!

Isn’t that liberating?

Well, having said that, it seems that many people on this planet still carry around their past as if it were some sort of ‘burden’. As if it had some sort of concrete reality. As if it said anything – ANYTHING – about who or what they are NOW, in this moment. As if it had some sort of power over them. As if it mattered.

The joke, of course, is that the past only ever exists as a present memory.
A thought, bubbling up from nowhere …. in the present moment (as if there could be any other moment!)

Yes folks…. there is only ever now. Past and future arise as thought, but they arise now.
Past and future only ‘exist’ as memory, and projection based on memory.

Nothing else is possible.

  1. Even the present moment doesn’t exist. As soon as you think of it, it’s already over… So time is indeed a concept which happens in the not-existing now… 🙂
