Switzerland Buried Under Pack Ice

Ice on stones in lake.

Pack ice in Switzerland? You bet!

As is generally known, the most uncomfortable places on earth are the perpetual ice landscapes of the Arctic North Pole and the Antarctic South Pole. This now has extended to the otherwise pretty cozy country of Switzerland.

To the left we see pack ice in Staad, at the Lake of Constance.

Enjoy these spectacular impressions!

"At 6 years old, the ice became a place for me to express myself. Because I was so shy off the ice, it became my safe haven, with music and freedom and self-expression. That was my emotional outlet."

I jump in, throw the water, cold as ice, and after the first plunge I am happy."

"I usually get myself into situations that cause sparks. I mean I'm a girl that likes the storms. I love feeling alive, I love walking out in the cold in my bare feet and feeling the ice on my toes."

Now is everything soon going to disappear under a unconquerable layer of ice soon in Switzerland? Probably!
But on the other hand there is hope as well, as the following photos demonstrate:

"It'll work, if god, wind, leads, ice, snow, and all the hells of this damned frozen land are willing."

And finally, we leave you with this quote by Italian poet, prose writer, editor and translator Eugenio Montale:

"Happiness, for you we walk on a knife edge. To the eyes you are a flickering light, to the feet, thin ice that cracks; and so may no one touch you who loves you."

(Eugenio Montale)
